The Economic Observatory of MercoNet (OeRed.org) is a Website created by the Mercosur’s Network of Economic Research. Its objective is to promote the dissemination of research and debate on the different aspects of the international crisis based on the findings of regional economists.
In this regard, the “Observatory” publishes special articles and opinions to feed the debate of relevant issues, such as the need for a new international financial architecture,
the impact of the crisis on Latin American countries and the regional integration process, and regional and national policy recommendations.
The “Observatory” targets economists working in the governments of different countries, international organizations, academics and the private sector, as well as specialized journalists. Moreover, we hope to achieve a close interaction with our readers both through their comments on the articles and contributions they may wish to submit.
This initiative is supported by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
Mercosur’s Network of Economic Research was created in 1998 through an initiative of Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), which brought together nine institutions belonging to the members of Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay).
MercoNet is currently comprised of twelve member institutions. It has generated a significant knowledge base over the last ten years through the development of research activities designed to analyze the evolution and perspectives of Mercosur’s integration with the global economy.
The results of this research have been recognized for their high academic quality and relevance to the process of policy making in Mercosur countries. The ongoing research activities in MercoNet are still one of the few experiences of a truly regional Network creation.
