What attracted you kommen sie photography? you re welcome briefly explain your journey kommen sie becoming a photographer

When i was in high school i studied Sciences und Mathematics. Ich knew nothing around photography or nett but i collected every kinds of images that were appealing kommen sie me. It can be a pose, a composition or just colours that ich liked, but ich wondered why some images seemed interesting und others go not. I so had this urge kommen sie do a examine where i could make something rather of nur absorbing information. Ich chose photography an extremely intuitively. When ich started, it was a disaster. Everything was analogue und I knew nothing about how a camera functioned or what a “good” bild should watch like. But i really wanted kommen sie learn this und for the first time i was passionate about something. After a while ich remember that ich finally do something that was worth hanging on ns walls, it was a portrait of my grandmother. My teacher claimed that it was either a lucky shot or that ich could it is in good hinweisen portraits, deswegen I continued an that direction. That ist how it every started.

Your portfolio appears to oase two sides - clean, contemporary portrait photography and a darker, summary photography. Just how did sie develop this approaches and how do freundin employ them across your work?

The clean portraits space from ns series “Stranger zu Myself”. I started this collection during my education as teil of an assignment. I had part success with them dafür I ongoing it but ich felt the after a while i was repeating myself und it didn"t offer me the same satisfaction as it go when ich started. After ich graduated i felt like i had gesamt freedom und I might take pictures weil das myself there is no thinking about pleasing other people. Ich returned to analogue photography und searched (and bei der still searching) zum my own language. This was deshalb important to me und my layout changed deshalb much an this short time. I feel favor what i make now ist much closer kommen sie me.



Your series, Spleen, has actually been shortlisted bei the Professional conceptual category this year. I understand it was inspired by a poem of Baudelaire. Please tell use more about this series, die concept behind ns images und where the shoot take it place

“Spleen” source from bei earlier series “Le Sentiment außerdem L"Éphémère”, which i started after losing a family members member. Ich tried to express the notions of loss und fleeting moments an life. After ns returning thought that most dinge will eventually come to pass, ich turned kommen sie photography zu explore concepts such as permanence und grief. “Spleen” tun können be seen as a much more refined and less raw representation von “Le Sentiment de L"Éphémère”, replacing ns very personal feeling des the series with a universal melancholia.The images were take away on miscellaneous locations. Ich had ideas around a girl in different poses dafür when ich found the right mädchen I go to produziert house kommen sie take pictures. Other photos came very naturally; ich always schutz my camera through me deshalb that wie something records my eye I tun können photograph that immediately.

The images in the collection are black und white analogue. Why did sie choose to shoot bei this way zum this specific project? room there advantages to working with analogue end digital?I mainly arbeit with black und white images. In my opinion colour gives more information, whilst i prefer kommen sie try zu reach die essence. I kann work more intuitively und direct using in analogue camera, instead of constantly checking my display in an attempt to catch ns perfect moment. I bei der now more in the momente itself und much much more concentrated. I so like ns process of developing my very own films. 



Will you continue die series?

I think this series is done weil das me however every collection comes out des the vault one und I like zu think that at some point they can all kommen sie together. So bei a certain method I in continuing it.

What are freundin currently functioning on?

I in working on a neu series dubbed “Wander” (working title). It ist inspired on experiences von remembering und forgetting. “Wander” is composed out von experimental photographs wherein I bei der pushing the limits von the medium itself by dissolving parts von the emulsion on die negatives. Rather than presenting a factual reality, ich try kommen sie fabricate in illusion zu conjure ns realms von the imagination des the viewer. I am searching for a balance bolzen showing und hiding, a metaphor zum the act des remembering. I am showing an intermediate world, which is bound kommen sie neither room nor time und is therefore as much as feasible open zum interpretation.What’s ns one thing sie always take with you on a shoot?

I do notfall really walk on shoot (well, sometimes) i just always (ALWAYS!) schutz my camera with me.
